Director of Workplace Programs & Research
The goal of Workplace Programs is to reframe the conversation about diversity in workplaces, focusing on hidden bias and hidden barriers and away from discrimination and protected classes. LPFI seeks a Workplace Director who will play an important role in LPFI strategy and must be highly organized, efficient, and proactive.
Responsibilities include:
• Spearhead academically rigorous, national quantitative and qualitative research around workplace issues, with a focus on subtle/hidden bias and barriers;
• Create environment that produces ground-breaking / high-quality research to help identify root causes, best practices around workplace bias and strategies to address it (which includes development of products and multi media projects which aim to mitigate bias in the workplace);
• Recognize and leverage national trends (“Obama Effect”) and position LPFI as key player in conversations about race, bias (via op-eds, appearance on talk shows, etc.);
• Work with Founder and Workplace team to promote "Giving Notice" and subsequent publications;
• Leverage LPFI research (e.g., Corporate Leavers Study and How Fair) for speaking opportunities, publicity, etc.;
• Harness technology / internet to build viral online community addressing workplace bias and barriers;
• Network within community of academics, consultants, Chief Diversity Officers, legal community, corporations for partnership, promotional, and research opportunities;
• Supervise and manage professional development of Workplace Associate and interns;
• Draft research findings, communications, publications, op-eds, etc.
Successful candidates will have:
• Masters degree, MBA, JD, Ph.D. or equivalent experience; minimum 5 years of experience;
• Research orientation (professional school, think tank, professional services, etc.);
• Experience as diversity manager/consultant/trainer highly desirable;
• Energetic, entrepreneurial spirit;
• Sophisticated understanding of diversity;
• Excellent judgment and integrity;
• High level of professionalism and confidentiality;
• Excitement about innovative business models and non-traditional organizations;
• Passion about mission; experience related to leveling the playing field;

Development Associate
Reporting to the Development Director, the Development Associate will manage a growing grants program, donor database, direct mail, communications, and fundraising events for LPFI’s education programs for low-income students of color. As the fundraising responsibilities grow to meet expanding organizational programs, the Associate will also help implement new strategies.
Responsibilities Include:
- Prospect research, donor solicitation, and effective stewardship of organizational donors, in conjunction with the Development Director;
- Manage active grants to ensure compliance with agreements, compile data to write reports;
- Manage the donor database (Exceed! Premier) and incoming revenue;
- Assist with production of annual fundraising Gala and other special events for donors;
- Coordinate direct mail as part of a larger individual donor strategy;
- Oversee management of growing grants program: draft grant proposals and reports, organize grant files and database;
- Communications responsibilities including website updates, e-Newsletter, on-line solicitations, YouTube videos, annual report, newsletters, etc;
- Coordination of revenue with finance department on a quarterly basis;
- Generating internal reports for assessing fundraising status.
Successful candidates will have:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Some grant writing experience required;
- Ability to work comfortably with budgets;
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills;
- Some experience with fundraising strategies;
- Comfortable working with vendors, such as graphic artists, printers, caterers, etc.;
- Experience with event production and management;
- Familiarity with databases;
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint;
- Willingness to work some evenings, as related to the fall fundraising event;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic office, with multiple programs;
- Sense of humor;
- Bachelors degree with a minimum of 3 years of fundraising experience preferred;
IDEAL Student Services Coordinator (STEM) - part-time
The STEM Student Services Coordinator will work with the IDEAL Director to provide academic and personal support to IDEAL Scholars at UC Berkeley. This position will work directly with undergraduate students of color in science, tech, engineering and math (STEM) courses.
Responsibilities Include:
• Be a part of a student services team for a scholarship program that works with underrepresented students of color at UC Berkeley.
• Monitor the academic progress of and provide academic and personal support through advising IDEAL students at all year-levels in the STEM fields.
• Coordinate the summer internship program.
• Assist in the coordination of program-wide events and gatherings, including monthly student meetings and social events.
• Hold regular, twice-weekly office hours at the IDEAL Office in Stiles Hall.
• Coordinate program student events and meetings, including meetings such as the mandatory program-wider meetings, recruitment, selection, and graduation.
• Connect IDEAL STEM students with tutors in their field, and manage the tutoring relationship.
• Connect IDEAL STEM students with on- and off-campus academic and professional resources and opportunities, including internship placement.
• Initiate academic-enrichment opportunities and professional development workshops for IDEAL STEM students.
• Assist in other projects and administrative activities as needed.
Successful candidates will have:
• Experience in academic enrichment, advising or mentoring with undergraduate students of color.
• Bachelors or graduate degree in STEM field. A graduate degree or enrollment is preferred.
• Commitment to supporting the success of underrepresented students of color in higher education.
• Warm, open, approachable, friendly, and interested in interacting with undergraduate students of color.
• Strong familiarity with UC Berkeley campus preferred, especially STEM departments.
• Reliable, dependable, self-starter who works well independently and as a member of a team.
This is a part-time position and does not include benefits. This position would be ideal for a current graduate student in STEM field. The regular site of work is located at the IDEAL office in Stiles Hall, across the street from the UC Berkeley campus, though periodic meetings at the LPFI office in San Francisco will be necessary.
